TELESCOPE
THE SOUTHERN GALAXY presents the TELESCOPE Documentary Series, films about the South and selections from Southern filmmakers. Our first is from Oxford, Mississippi resident Mary Stanton Knight, who examined the life of writer, translator, poet, painter, and trained classical pianist Hiram Hubert Creekmore, Jr. She researched the private relationships Creekmore had with literary and artistic figures from 1940-1966 to discover his circle of friends and what his life was like as a gay man from Mississippi in post-World War II America. Her documentary Dear Hubert Creekmore was selected for the the Oxford Film Festival. It explores the author’s ties to his childhood home of Water Valley, Mississippi in his novels and poems.
