Greenville Offers Artisphere Of Recreation

Born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, I have watched it transition from a little town in the upstate to a rapidly growing city. For some, Greenville is a stop along the way. For others, it is a destination. Regardless of your duration, here are a few tips. This is my guide to Greenville, South Carolina, or as the locals say…”Yeah, that Greenville!”

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate in downtown Greenville offers visitors 80,000 square feet and 19 exhibit galleries. Created for children 12 and under, the museum’s mission is to “spark a lifelong passion for curiosity and learning through play.” Exhibits are designed to enrich the knowledge of young children with enjoyment. They include components of art, health, environment, science, and other major subjects to help enhance learning.

Falls Park on the Reedy in downtown Greenville is one of the city’s most popular attractions. Falls Park has offers many recreational options. Play tag with friends, read a book, or enjoy a picnic. The area’s greatest attraction is Liberty Bridge. According to the City of Greenville, the $4.5 million structure stretches 345 feet long and 12 feet wide. The bridge wraps over the park, overlooking the Reedy River. Some say it is one of the most beautiful views in Greenville.

The Swamp Rabbit Trail offers 22 miles of activity. The multi-use trail is both pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly, and there are always people on it. The ambiance is welcoming. You can jump on the trail anywhere, or you can complete it from start to finish. You can walk your dog, stroll your children, or go for a run. There are plenty of stops to make downtown. One of its greatest attractions is the Swamp Rabbit Cafe & Grocery on the north side of town.

Once a year during a weekend in May, the Artisphere art festival commemorates Greenville culture as a celebration of visual, culinary and performing arts. Whether you are a local or a visitor, Artisphere on Main Street and in Falls Park is worth attending. This May, Artisphere celebrated its 15th anniversary.
